Mid-Day meal turns Mass-Murderer for 20 children in Bihar. Is scheme serving its purpose or turning bane with no checks?

Mid-day meal which was supposed to be a game-changer of the sort is
turning into a mass-murderer in many parts of the nation to which
Bihar is a new entry after 20 children died and several seriously got
ill after consuming meal served in school which allegedly was made
using second-grade oil.

Mid-Day meal on paper promises to eradicate malnutrition among
children and to some extent encourage children attend schools and
reduce high dropout rates which are staggering high in some remote
parts of nation. But is it serving its purpose? Irony is in the way
these scheme is handled across the nation. In some parts it's through
NGOs and at few teachers themselves manage the same. In Bihar where
this incident occurred it was teachers who used see its whereabouts.
It was whole & sole there responsibility to see commodities are of
good quality and to look at how it's cooked and served. It's sad to
say the least that they have failed miserably. Their run-away from the
incident and not responding to any questions that are being raised on
their misconduct speaks volumes about mis-handling of a scheme that
meant good. In a country as diverse as India not just with its vista
but even regarding the problems it has it is cruel to bring out a
scheme and let go off it in god's name is crime in itself. There is
damn necessity to frame rules, to appoint few legitimate people to
manage and be answerable to any mishap as this; furthermore there must
be a provision for stringent punishment after all this is playing with
someone's children - their treasure - our future generation. And it is
almost laughable on a govt that spearheaded this scheme and launched
it without much thinking in a country where their constitution itself
goes in detail so much that few things seem almost not-required of
mention but necessary only so that someone in future not uses unsaid
to prove what's morally unright!

Politics is sure one ingredient which we never want to miss from our
sight - be it merry conversations or unwanted battles or any issues;
if you are in India, you shall bare it all. You never know when will
what appease a political picture hitherto unseen, unimagined. As such
this incident too has attracted political eyeballs with RJD calling
for bandh which BJP would support in unison. In between ruling party
is alleging others of politicising the issue whereas we know in India
no issue sees the light of justice without an intervention from
political heavy-weight. Moreover media too losses interest in anything
that is not political! This is India that we have created. This is
India that we have built. Sad but yes!

In midst of all this political storm wherein BJP has even asked for CM
Nitish Kumar resignation, CM has announced 2 Lakh compensation amount
for the family of those who have lost their child as if the family was
eyeing only this! Nitish Kumar has not even though of going and
visiting the family or school when it was damn nearer to him. CM must
see not just that 2 Lakh reaches the devastated family but justice is
delivered swiftly and judiciously.

Other schools too must see that they serve better. Parents to go see
what materials are used and if it's cooked judiciously or not. If not
then to complain the higher responsible authorities. Media which
wastes its much needed energy in covering spicy glamorous news to turn
their cameras towards rural, remote schools where no one reaches
except during elections and focus what might save few more lives
because there is more to it than just Bihar - there is simply too much
that goes uncovered, unseen from our eyes just because there is no
spice or less politics attached to it!!!

Share you views on how mid-day meal scheme can be improved for better
and what necessary steps government must take to ensure it serves its
purpose.
