Amartya Sen & Chandan Mitra tiff brings out the 'terms and conditions' every Bharat Ratna is governed by!

Amartya Sen: Will return Bharat Ratna if Vajpayee asks it.

Renowned economist and Bharat Ratna awardee Amartya Sen sparked debate  while he accidentally pressed the trigger of already upbeat Modi brigade. "As an Indian citizen I don't want Modi as my PM, he has not done enough for minorities or for the majority," said Sen in an
interview with CNN-IBN. What followed later on was unfortunate of its  kind in a democracy as large as India which boasts of its liberal democratic principles and vividity at large.

Narendra Modi is good or bad in itself is an altogether different issue. But don't we have right to have our opinions, don't we have right to speak our mind, shall we worry about the consequences before uttering anything? Where are we heading? Who is Modi after all? A CM of one Indian state and if all goes as one desires then will become Prime Minister of India. What difference will that make? Will it change how we speak or will it change the way we think? There were many before and will be many after; they come and go but India stays, the Bharat remains. Let it remain triumphant, glorious.

Whoever Amartya Sen be and however great & popular Narendra Modi may be; their brilliance nor their charisma, nothing shall try itself to take away our right to express ourselves. Unless it goes against the
spirit of our constitution, it is legitimate. Moreover the 'Ramarajyam' which BJP emphasizes now and then too had laws which echoes this notion of speaking one's mind else the washerman who raised questions on Lord Ram's wife would have been beheaded but he was not. The reactions Sen's comments are receiving makes one worried of his life if he was present now and had said it in present times! Looks like we have forgotten what 'Ramarajyam' truly meant or do we ever understood it at all! Sorry in both ways.

Amartya Sen wasn't some common man but a gem - Bharat Ratna and BJP's Chandan Mitra says, BR's are never meant to speak against a particular party or person! Full Stop. Now, do they lose their life after winning a Bharat Ratna or Bharat Ratna comes with certain 'terms and conditions'. The highest civilian award of this land is awarded to celebrate the gems India produces. And why don't Chandan Mitra turn few pages of history books. It was Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the man on whose legacy BJP survives till date, whose government awarded Sen the coveted prize. Was Vajpayee wrong? Never could he be. Sen was right in
saying, "If Mr. Vajpayee wants me to return it, I will certainly return it." I know he never will. Amartya Sen who was named 'Amartya' meaning 'immortal' by Rabindranath Tagore said this when Chandan Mitra raised eyebrows with his tweets. "Amartya Sen says he doesn't want Modi to be India's PM. Is he even a voter in India? Next NDA government must strip him of Bharat Ratna," Mitra said during an interview to CNN-IBN. Chandan Mitra seems lost his track with Indian nerve. Don't we hope, comment, tweet and celebrate when so & so wins in US or Pakistan? Don't we express who will better rule Pak and who the real ruler their without worrying about its consequences? Now, do we go cast our vote there? Crossing every boundary lines our news channels even report live the elections going somewhere else! Don't we watch them? Mitra is editor with 'The Pioneer'. He must be knowing few things more better than us.

Well known economist, Jagdish Bhagwati, has also criticised Amartya Sen, saying he's the only economist to have hurt India's poor. "He's the one economist who hurt the poor twice. Whether he deserves Bharat
Ratna or not, that's not for me to decide." Sen may be lone economist but not certainly the lone Indian. On Thursday Congress spokesperson Raj Babbar had said he can get a full meal for Rs 12 in Mumbai. Later his colleague Rasheed Masood, said Rs 5 is enough in Delhi. They were batting for Planning Commission which had set Rs 33/day benchmark to decide who the real poor is!

I don't support nor lament Amartya Sen's remarks. We have right over our thoughts and ideas. We may influence someone but must never force to agree with ourselves. Are we expecting all people to vote for some particular leader just because a group of people think so? Hello dear! Are you redefining democracy?? Sen has his brains and we have ours. Let him express his ideas and let us express ours. If one doesn't want Modi let them not vote for him; the one's who wish to will vote for sure. for any instance let's not ask anyone to return the accolades just because they don't fall in line with your thoughts. Let us celebrate duality.
They say India's strength lies in vividity. Why crush the same...
