Now is the time to begin, now is the hour to start — there are no other auspicious hours!

Long back when I was still in my school I had read one article in a local magazine which has still stayed with me, at least the gist of it. And here I’m sharing the central idea of that wonderful piece. It was talking about a flaw, a lacking that exists in all of us. Let us call it ‘Monday Syndrome’. No no, it isn’t another post about how people feel while going to work on Mondays. It is about how we plan to start doing a new task. That music lesson you wanted to start with, that blog you wanted to write or that thing you wanted to paint, anything that you wanted to accomplish but have not started on. You have told to yourself that you will start from this Monday, that you will go to gym from the 1st of next month. Most of the students have habit of sticking or planning according to whole numbers. It is 5:49 PM now and they plan to start studying exactly from 6PM. That they never start is another story. It is 6:30 and then you want to start from 7 sharp. It is 7 now. But wait, 7 seems inauspicious and odd, let’s begin from 8. Story continues.

Our search for perfect start, perfect timing never ends. We always wait for the rain to stop, sun to come out, this song to finish, that disturbing sound to end. The world seems to be conspiring against anyone who is planning something new, perfect conditions appear to be so near yet never fathomable. I don’t know about world but there is something about us, about here and now, about our attitude to things that we can change. And that one simple change could benefit us beyond our imaginations. And no, it isn’t any rocket science that you have to remember to be successful at the things you do but one simple mantra — to start early, to not wait for perfect conditions but venture into it. Start learning that musical instrument today, start bending your body now, go write that blog today, and you dear painter, what are you waiting for, start wetting your strokes!

The rain would never stop, the sun would never come out and even if they did, there will always be other things; like how sea waves follow one after the other, our excuses would never stop. The fact is fisherman never waits for waves to stop, he ventures into the sea to unearth the treasures it holds. He starts without waiting for waves to stop, for sea to become still. There is no perfect timing or conditions, it is all about when you start. The sooner you start, the better you become at things.

When you start, you will notice warmth of sun on your body, freshness of rains on your shoulders. 6 or 8 PM would never arrive, 1
st of month will be 2nd when it arrives making you wait for another 1st of month. So just start now. Push back, kick all that holds you back and begin the thing you wanted to begin with for sometime now. Let failure not hold you back. Remember even Wright brothers didn’t succeed with their first flight but they didn’t gave away, they persisted and look where we are today. People may laugh at your ideas, squirm at your thoughts. You know what? People always do that. Ignore them. Sit with those who value your thoughts, walk around those that enhance your plans. And begin with whatever resources you have. You’ll notice the magic your will holds. Let whole numbers, 1st of month, rain and sun not hold you back; may you and only you decide when you wish to start and how. May you succeed in whatever endeavor you take.
Best of luck!
