Indian voters no more are blind and dumb the way they used to be. Or they still are??

READY TO CROWN: Senior Congress Leader K. Siddaramaiah has got wings to fly!
Counting day in fact decides who will count for next 5 years is one among the many tweets that made rounds on social networks as results of Karnataka assembly elections started disclosing, providing reasons to smile for congress and humiliating the outgoing BJP. There were many more sarcastic updates from netizens from frustration over both national parties to change of mood people have voted to Yeddy effect! Yes, the former CM had it all. One read
“Yeddyurappa's possible reaction on results: Hum to doobenge sanam tumko bhi le dubenge.” [We will sink, no doubt, but will take you too to shallow!]

BJP's embarrassing defeat or congress's sigh-of-relief win or JDS's surprise arrival - all had one thing to applause for - the Common Man, was no more dumb nor blind enough to forget & forgive their 'populist' leader. High turnout this time was alarm to this pesky leaders who least looked at their constituencies but were busy fixing squares at city centers. From Renukacharya & Shobha Karandlaje to K S Ishwarappa it said it all. Wife of former CM Anita Kumarswamy who changed her constituency this time in confidence of winning from anywhere too lost it. Voters this time were clear in their larger participation; it is your work and not populist image that mattered to us. Who you are and which party you belongs to is immaterial or so it spoke the clear wash-out of BJP from Shimoga district which was believed to be saffron stronghold. Plus Yeddyurappa's KJP too failed badly; former CM was the sole winner from his party in the area. Independents much to anyone's surprise beat it at large by defeating even the populist ministers of state. Mr. Satish Sail who started his political career from scratch by heading minor to major strikes in coastal belt has triumphantly showed, not money & liquor but attitude towards work and mingling with social diaspora is what people prefer most by winning over sitting MLA and Minister Mr. Anand Asnotikar by a margin of more than 35 thousands. Congress party president G Parameshwar is another example who even 'hadn't got time to campaign' in his own constituency! Not just this alone but many in Karnataka have tasted sour defeat after people got smarter.
“Don't just go gaga over mike but get to the ground and act is the very message voters sent out through the mandate.”

One more worth seeing trend was that, not the party that people looked up to and voted but candidates and their touch in respective constituencies is what people watched while press-of-key. Else former CM Yeddyurappa(KJP) or Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri(BJP) had never won it again. Yeddyurappa who claimed whopping 50+ seats for his new party had to settle down with just 6 although he himself won in his own constituency for record time which solely was credited to the work and developmental initiative he has taken in time.

Prime Minister ManMohan Singh who is facing heat of coalgate almost found oxygen in Karnataka results and jumped the gun to say, "People of Karnataka have rejected BJP ideology." Well, I'm certainly not a big fan of his logic. If Karnataka has rejected BJP's ideology, what Gujarat or Goa for instance had rejected? Let's face it Mr. PM. Voter is getting smarter and quite brainy too. No more are good old days where goodies a night-before election or caste for that sake had decided outcome of polls.
Not at all parts have voters matured or maybe they were not served with right dishes as one sitting MLA of three who were caught watching porn in ongoing assembly has been re-elected with considerable margin! Anyhow at large it’s a mandate for change although not crystal clear alternative but less murky one is what people have opted from the turf and in that sense they have won and showed the power of democracy though once in years.

The big fight 2014 is at door-step. BJP, Congress or new someone! Whoever it is - pull up your socks and fasten your seat-belts, work and show us what you are all up to. Stalking houses, rampant allegations and denials is what everybody does and we have seen them enough. Show us something new, worth remembering of. You know our memories are quite short but not rusted forever to forget and forgive time and again!
