December 21st - a doomsday or Mayan hoax? World's safe says the NASA and your own Rational self! Have you heard it...?

The winter chill of December hasn't yet taken off up to its revered
highs but the fear of doomsday on December 21st have already been in
its primes. Many are talking of the same in public spaces, news
channels too are spending staggering amount of time on it, blogs and
columns are written off everyday like a new revelation of a high
profile murder mystery! If news reports are to be believed then many
people across the seas vis-a-vis from China to Russia, to France and
the US have laid in supplies of essential item in the hope of
surviving through doomsday. Supplies of tinned food, fuel for primus
stove, dry cell batteries for light, essential medicines are all on
menu of a safety kit. Are you one among these early jumpers? Chances
are you might!

The Earth we live in has been in its very existence from around 4.5
billion years and Humankind on it has inhabited from around six
million years on a rough scale. Provided this long durable track
record of earth's existence amidst all odds ranging from man-made to
natural, there doesn't seem to be any possibility of such an end to
the caravan of life that is trudging on this sphere. After all, the
doomsday prophesies predicting the end of this beautiful world have
been in fashion since over 600 years before the beginning of Christian
era. In 634 BC the Roman feared that their capital city - the nerve
centre of all civilisation - would be destroyed, by an unspecified
agency, to coincide with the 120th anniversary of its founding. But
everybody knows how Rome has flourished aftermath. Similar premature,
unreasonable obituaries of world have been composed attributing
diverse causes to the impending demise, from alien invasion to
astronomical blunders, to man-made mistakes, but all have failed
head-on before the prowess of Mother Earth who still persistently
lives providing every ounce of life on its eternal laps. This time
around it's the grand old Mayan long count calendar that has been the
centre of discussion amongst all who address this unintentional
doomsday prediction on December 21st. The NASA has categorically
dismissed the prediction of world's end on December 21st, 2012 in a
statement on its website. "Just as the calendar you have on your
kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan
calendar does not cease to exist on December 21,2012. This date is the
end of the Mayan long-count period, but then...just as your calendar
begins again on January 1- another long-count period begins for the
Mayan calendar," it says. After lots of established scientific
communities started addressing this doomsday prophesy dismissing
world's categorical end, some people have begun to spread a word of
world going dark for 3 days which is fuelled dramatically after a
regional news paper allegedly reported in its column. Which too takes
a setback after close look at sun's movement. It looks as if miracle
mongers are on a mission, if not then this! Anyone who has closely
read the lines from NASA's website would undoubtedly dismiss this one
too. Actually, we don't require NASA or any other established
scientific community to waste its valuable time in answering such
miracle mongering doomsday prophesies that foretell the world's end
just because an age old calendar ends on a particular day. A little
more stress on rational side of our mind will work wondrous. The
calendar which we all refer every other day have been in its very
existence from time we weren't even born and every calendar in our
homes ends on a particular date. The famous being on December 31st and
January 1, a new year begins with lots of fire-crackers, parties and
intolerable sound at the midnight but all these years nowhere have we
seen any evidence that suggests or point towards world coming to an
end. Why be mad and worry then? The celebrated Mayans might have got
tired or had some pre thoughts or reasons of their own and ended their
quintessential work or calendar on such & such date. Then, where is
the point that triggers the very idea of doomsday? Get to the work
gentlemen! You are here to live and there is lot more to life than to
worry on such unreasonable prophesies.

The world is here from centuries and will be for still more. Let us
not bother of something which is out of our wishes and ambit. Let us
be together and live on as we are today. And for a change, if possible
as a tribute to outgoing Mayan Calendar(!) and the intellectuals who
created it, let us end the negativism, doomy egoist self and help
prosper the Humanity to its peak.

Have a Good Times.

And Happy New Year 2013! Don't worry it shall persist in the years to come...
