India turns 66!! But how far have the Indians changed from 1947...
The largest democracy in the world is all set to celebrate
its 66th Independence Day on August 15, but is unfurling tricolor on flag post
so high enough to celebrate a country's Independence Day? It wouldn't be
surprising for many to hear how people enjoy it as just another day in the list
of their jolly holidays! I don't say I do anything very special that you too
should practice along but I want everybody at other side to understand the deep
meaning of living in an Independent nation. Nor am I in any mood to make you
re-listen anything of an excerpt from Independence Day speech that runs in all
the schools, colleges and institutions that function in India! Our ears have
listened them enough, not anymore right? How Gandhiji, Bhagat Singh, Vallabhbhai Patel,
Subhashchandra Bose and many more fought in their own way to present us the
merry independence that we all enjoy today! But was this the typical
INDEPENDENCE they all fought for? Is this the same India they wanted us to live
in? I simply believe not to believe in.
The recent show from Indian superstar Aamir Khan talked
about the same thing in its last episode, the famous so called 'second war of
independence' fought by Team Anna headed by Anna Hazare was another where they
dealt in conveying the same old message. But has the typical Indian changed any
far? Hoisting flag so high on a flag post, delivering speeches on pieces of
history and distributing sweets has become a norm on Independence Day. People
already have started turning to a daylong holidays instead of attending usual
norms, they today feel it as just another national holiday to rely upon. Even
the festivities at home have some work to do but not Independence Day; it comes
with a tagline 'no work and all play'! Apart, if just a look at olden times and
a possible grasp on the euphoric mood of those times will make you understand
that the India that they dreamt 'then' is still not yet achieved, in fact we
have travelled back so much so that returning back today seems to be as an
idealistic talk, impossible to achieve. I don't believe in comparing India with
Japan to assess 'how they had developed their country after nuclear wars and we
still remain intact at starting position itself!' It would sound mere buffoonery
to compare a nation with vast differences where every now and then a riot
breaks out between its different tangles with Japan. Comparisons will achieve
nothing but sigh of agony or relief. Actual fact is, we always look at our neighbor
Pakistan and even if our position is just half percent better than theirs, we
are more than satisfied to admit it, in fact contented even to listen at it!
You know for what the India is famous for? The bloody
blame-game! 'It’s not mine but his responsibility', 'what change will a poor
individual like me will bring in this wide nation' - all this and many more are
not reasons but excuses that we offer to one another. What we achieve out of
it? Simple! A day to tag as holiday
and formidably good, night’s sleep to enjoy for. We believe in society to
finish up our work. The country we live in is full of fundamental problems that
you and I as individuals could not easily but certainly cope with. The fact
remains. When are we going to try? The child marriage, female feticide,
infanticide, dowry, domestic violence, child sex abuse, trafficking and many to
mention are problems that could be solved if you raise your voice against them!
Not easily said than done. But sure will there be a difference if you raise
your voice. Don't forget we live in a democratic setup where some basic laws
govern us. The problems mentioned above are considered even illegal by law.
Some of them are even practiced in a place near you, may be you are aware of
it! If you believe police are not going to come to your rescue, which is our
basic assumption across India then contact a news channel! They sure will help.
Why? Because the problems we are talking about are those which make national
headlines when comes into light. Every news channel is in need of such news
which makes to breaking news or main page! Once this happens your job is nearly
over. There are too many ways of dealing a problem. Different people have
different ways of dealing them. Remember, it’s not we as society that needs to
be changed but I as individual that needs a makeover. Only then will we be able
to realize the dream and vision our heroic patriots foreseen.
India of my dreams or our dreams should not just be another
chapter of a novel or book but a reality that we aspire for. If we make a move
today then it’s not anything impossible that we are aiming at. You know Indians
are made of hard metal not mere blood and flesh. The age old history reveals
simply that if they dreams then they realize them. Rags to riches stories are
not any new to us. When in need even our single woman is capable of shaking an
empire which never saw sunset in its territory! The former president Kalam,
first lady IPS Kiran Bedi, corporate giants like Dhirubhai Ambani, NarayanMurthy, J. R. D. Tata, fire brand politician Mamata Banerjee and too many are
all Indians who have came from nowhere but have succeeded in achieving what is
thought to be impossible at the very beginning. Our history books too are
filled with such men and women with extraordinary courage and determination. It’s
time again now to celebrate our independence day not just with flag hoist and
sweet distribution but to make a bold resolution to change the face of a
nation. Not to divulge our self in divisive administration based on different
caste and creed but to stand united. We live in secular country filled with
million differences. Our strength lies not in nuclearity but in standing united
and bounded. Further, keeping quite over an issue never defines an Indian but
speaking boldly does! Let no issue be taboo to you. Let the merry genuine proud
Indianism prosper and grow. Let strength, courage and fearlessness define you.
Be proud of being an Indian. You are part of a land which gave birth to the
likes of Swami Vivekanand, Rani Laxmibai, and the phenomenal Mahatma Gandhi! Change
doesn’t occur on its own but it begins with your determination. Whenever
someone tries to ridicule you of your nation or individuality, do strike back. Don’t
barely listen what they speak of you and vanish as soon as they finish instead
wait for your turn and fruitfully answer them…
Happy Independence Day till then!!
