Right to Information:A mammoth power in the hands of common man
Undoubtedly
the Right to Information has been a Goliath in the tiny hands of disheartened
crowd who thought they had nothing for 'hitting-back' at the messy adamant yet
crooked crowd- pullers. Though at one side people might question "what’s
it that we going to get after asking questions? Wouldn't it just be a waste of
time and energy?" absolutely not! You might not be aware of the underlying
strength of the awarded fundamental right. From the merry schooling days we
well in advance know the right full things which can be achieved though them.
Don't forget while asking questions about the works undertaken in your
locality, undue fallacy being made in accomplishing public/personnel works, the
funds allocated/ expenditure made, how, why, when, where etc. stress upon a
written reply on paper rather than a virtual reply! Because paper's as proof
you could carry upon. Try getting answers to your questions from the higher appellate
authority than the concerned; this would indeed put a pressure on the
concerned. Interestingly enough, you even need not pay in huge sums as evident
from the other options, only a meager 10 rupee stamp and free going for BPL
friends. Then why fear... Grab one application from the post office, for free of
course! And fear the fearless adamant rulers; thereby join hands in
strengthening the largest democracy to be the cleaner one. RTI might not solve
all the woes you are facing but sure will leap you somewhere forward in this regards;
just give it a try in disgrace. Do remember the shivering you get when someone
dares to question you on some critical workings of you. The immediate actions
of ours to finish them off! There may be many of them which might get solved.
Wondered why am I taking due stress in preaching this? Obvious is your thought
and much obvious is my answer that I've personally experienced the highs of it,
when a road in our locality was constructed after heavy questionnaires. Then I realized
the need to make people aware of the art of questioning and wonder that this
maverick act could achieve! Don't think, just wake up and ask questions; surely
you would be proud that you tried!!! hellodheeraj@rocketmail.com
